  4. Interesting that you find Nationwide to be in the top 5 when they are non-renewing 100,000 policies and not even offering a substitute plan for those being displaced. If they even accept those dogs into another plan, they are re-underwriting and applying pre-existing conditions to anything that has been covered under their own policy. Many of these dogs are older and uninsurable elsewhere due to pre-existing conditions. They and their staff have made it clear they do not want to insure dogs when they get older and sick (isn’t that what we buy insurance for?)

    And this doesn’t consider the other states where they are doing conditional renewal by dropping coverage to 50% or the states where the plan was kept but the premiums increased 2.5-3x. As the healthy dogs exit these pools, experience will deteriorate and they will either gain Department of Insurance approval to remove the plan or to price out remaining policyholders next year.

    This strategy is being incorporated with a “Just a Dog” mentality on Nationwide’s part with no consideration of the resulting financial euthanasia that will occur.
